Value Drafting

I helped my son draft a fantasy football team this morning. It was a lot of fun for both of us and he ended up with a pretty great team. I just took a few seconds to analyze the team based on value. Value drafting is the key to success in fantasy football. It's all about getting the best player at a particular draft position. For example, if a player's average draft position is 15th overall and you grab him with the 25th pick then that's a +10 value. I'll list his team along with value info for skill positions.

1. Frank Gore RB SF 8th overall 6th average draft pick +2 value
2. Clinton Portis RB Was 13, 10, +3
3. Tori Holt WR St. L 28, 26, +2
4. Anquan Boldin WR Ari 33, 28, +5
5. Roy Williams WR Det 48, 42, +6
6. Brandon Jacobs RB NYG 53, 23, +30
7. Donovan McNabb QB Phi 68, 60, +8
8. Tony Gonzalez TE KC 73, 68, +5
9. Jay Cutler QB Den 88, 63, +25
10. New York Giants Defense
11. Pittsburgh Steelers Defense
12. Jerry Porter WR Jac 113, 92, +21
13. Owen Daniels TE Hou 128, 89, +39
14. Adam Vinatieri K Ind
15. Vince Jackson WR SD 148, 87, +61

As you can see, we were able to get positive value at every position in every round including some outright steals, like Brandon Jacobs in the 6th round, Jay Cutler in the 9th, plus Porter, Owens, and Jackson in the late rounds. Super sweet draft.
