Big day today as my 7 year old's soccer team capped off a second consecutive undefeated season with a 9-0 victory. He played goalie again while I did my best Fred Sanford impersonation anytime the ball came anywhere close to the goal. Big fun and medals for everyone.
Next, it was off to the Red Nose Run where my 3 year old would be "racing" in the Diaper Dash and my 7 year old would be running the .35 mile 6-8 year old race. My 3 year old ended up walking the race, which is surprising because he is a little runner and hardly ever walks anywhere. My 7 year old surprised me by bolting from the starting line and pretty much sprinting the entire distance.
I was running in the grass along side him trying to get far enough ahead so that I could snap some pictures but he didn't make it easy. Toward the end, I noticed him start to slow down just a little so I yelled out, "down the hill and around the bend to the finish line", and he immediately took off with a sudden burst of speed and quite the finishing kick. We met him at the finish line after he got his water, bagel, and medal. I think he was actually a little light headed from the race as he just kind of gave us an exhausted blank stare that I'm quite familiar with giving at the end of my races.
Speaking of my race, I'm on for the 1/2 marathon tomorrow morning although my piriformis is killing me and now I've developed some weird numbness in my foot. So I'm just going to go out and have fun, try not to run too fast, and get out of there without any further damage.
